Cooling

A cooling path for that site.

The approach starts from the site: the climate, the water and energy the plant will use, the interfaces between systems, and whether the result can be maintained. One diagram does not fit every data center.

Site conditions
The climate
Outdoor air, humidity, and the design day belong to that site. Canada and New York State are not Southeast Asia.
Water and energy
Measured
Water and power used by the cooling plant are part of the design, not an afterthought.
Interfaces
The joints
Where the IT loop, the building plant, and the heat rejection meet, and who owns each one.
Maintainability
Service
Valves, filters, and readings a technician can reach after the data center is in operation.

A cooling path

From the chip to heat leaving the site.

This is one path, shown so the interfaces are visible. The site decides whether heat leaves to air, to water, or by another plant the location can support. DGC does not manufacture the coolers.

Cold plate Coolant loop Distribution Dry rejection RETURN
  1. 01

    Cold plate

One place heat can leave the chip, into a coolant.

  2. 02

    Coolant loop

Flow, temperature, and chemistry have to stay inside limits.

  3. 03

    Distribution

The distribution unit is the interface between the IT equipment and the plant.

  4. 04

    Rejection

Heat leaves to air or water, by a method the site can support.
